Soquel was founded inĀ the 1850s. The name “Soquel” may be an Ohlone word for village or it may be the name of the village. Locals pronounce “Soquel” as “so-KELL.” The 150-year-old town of Soquel features antique dealers, restaurants, scenic two-lane roads and family-operated wineries. The hills of soquel are full of back mountain roads connecting to highway 17 and to the silicon valley have made it an ideal commuting location for many professionals. The schools in Soquel are highly rated and it can be considered a very family orientated area with many parks such as Anna Jean Cumming Park. With many local wineries in soquel, there is something for the whole family. You will fall in love with this adorable town and want to stay in the mountains forever; but don’t worry the beach in Capitola is only 5 minutes away!
Anna Jean Cummings Park is a 95 acres park located is located on Old San Jose Road in Soquel. Walking distance from most neighborhoods it boats baseball diamonds, track, playground and plenty of green space for everyone! The rest of the park is rare coastal prairie, grassland, and riparian habitat with a meandering trail network. Rare and endangered species have been observed in the park.
Further up Main Street from the antique shops is Bargetto Winery, a local historic winery that has been producing wine since 1933. Bargetto Winery opens for events on holidays to hold brunch and a variety of other events. The atmosphere is amazing and the scenery even more!
